Burbia Roller Derby vs. Maine (Double Header)
April 30, 2011
The Suburban Brawl took on Maine Roller Derby's Port Authorities, ranked 9th in WFTDA's Eastern region (but #1 in skater intro dancing!). Suburbia's hard hitting kept the score close through the first period, but in the second half, Maine's blockers' strong lateral footwork held the Brawl's jammers back and widened the point spread.

Next up, Suburbia's Backyard Bullies faced off against Maine's Calamity Janes. The teams were evenly matched throughout the first half, with impressive jamming by MVP Jeri Fling-Her and the Bullies' newest member, Chopstick Murphy, but once again Maine rallied in the second period, winning by only 20 points,

Suburbia v. DC
April 9, 2011
Cowbells rang from the first jam, with Brawl Captain Dina Sore Jr. taking lead jammer and scoring 3/0. DC came back fighting, bringing the score up to 7-17 DC in a handful of jams. Then a 10/0-point jam by DC’s Sookie Slaughterhouse was followed by a 20-point power jam by Brawl’s Charlotte Bupowski, bringing the Brawl ahead by 5. Taking advantage while two DC blockers and their jammer sat in the penalty box, Harlot Brontë racked up 10 more, bringing the score to 42-27, SRD. Nearing the end of the period, jammer Dina Sore Jr. was sent to the box on a track cut, Sookie and Yankee Scandal capitalized in this, each scoring 10 in the last two jams of the half, making it 48-60, DC.
Brawl Coach Sergeant Major and Bench Manager Fifi Fleshwound must have given a heck of a halftime pep talk; the defense came out with a vengeance in the second half, holding DC scoreless for several jams. After a 10/0 jam from Charlotte Bupowski, then 13 more from AWOL, the game was tied at 81 with 13 left on the clock. DC was scoreless again for 4 jams as Bupowski and IV Drop added 5 each to the Brawl’s score, followed by another outstanding performance by AWOL for 9 more, bringing SRD up to 100 points.
DC fought hard to the end, with Sookie Slaughterhouse earned 9 points by jamming through a tough pack including Suffah Kate, IV Drop and Dina Sore Jr. But SRD’s blockers held DC to just 2 points in the last jam, especially when proving her name correct, IV dropped jammer Yankee Scandal. The crowd went wild at Suburban Brawl’s victory of 100-92, helping them work their way up the rankings for 2011.

Backyard bullies kick it off
March 19, 2011
The triumphant first match of the season for Suburbia’s Backyard Bullies started off as a nail-biter, but quickly turned into a Bullies-dominated bout. The Bullies remained scoreless in the first two jams until Jeri Fling-her easily slipped through New Hampshire’s pack with two grand slams, bringing the score to 10-4, Bullies. A few jams later, Fatal Booty used the power jam to her advantage, and with the Cherry Bombs’ Madam Scurrie in the penalty box, scored 15 points. Despite having played in the earlier bout with Skate Free or Die! All Stars, Slam I Am scored 8 points for the Cherry Bombs, but the tight pack work of Grave Robin, Milkstud Piglet and Smashing Pumpkin kept the Cherry Bombs at 14 points for six jams, while the Bullies’ score rose to 74. The Bullies kept dishing out the tough defense with a solid wall of Fifi Fleshwound, Crash Sprawldisplat and Fatal Booty, letting jammers Lil Eve L, K-Rock and Smashing Pumpkin easily make scoring passes. At the half, 112-25, Bullies.
During the second half, the Bullies’ domination slowed down a bit, but they were still able to keep the Cherry Bombs at arm’s length. An injury in the first jam took Maully O’ffender out, leaving the Cherry Bombs down a skater for the rest of the bout. Despite gaining lead jammer for the next five jams, the Bullies gained only 13 more points, as the Cherry Bombs’ jammers were out of the pack right behind them. Moxie Moonwalk and Chika Chika Bam Bam made up the majority of the Cherry Bombs jammer rotation, with Moxie using her hips to knock the Bullies out of her way. As the Cherry Bombs crept up with small scoring jams, so did the Bullies – with the Cherry Bombs scoring 36 in the second half, and the Bullies gaining 35.
